Reflection about Canteen

On Novermber.23.09 we talked about how can we help the students and canteen at school. And I think we came up with bunch of ideas such as mix students up at lunch time. We watched about some videos to see the evidence how our school's canteen is like. According to the video, I saw many students who are same nationality sit the same table, and also I see only same grade students sit in the same table. Moreover, many students line up in the noodle place and wait for 10 minutes or more. As I see those evidence, I can think many ideas to improve our school.
At first, I think we can make our canteen bigger because we got a lot of students more and some people are eating the food on the bench and outside, because there is not enough seats. I have a suggestion where we can make larger canteen that there is ping pong table, and only few students are playing, but there are too much space for that table. Therefore, we can say that we can move the ping pong table a bit and put the tables and chairs for students who will eat the lunch. I think it will be better. Also, for students who are sitting on the table with same nationality, people who is not the same country people can join them and talk, so that we can improve our English also, we can communicate more.
I am the person who do not like people to be alone or isolated, so by sitting with many people we can make more friends and also the person who were sitting alone will not feel isolated anymore. So this is my own value and it will help our school better, I think.
From ESLR's I can say that I learn Caring Global Citizen from our ideas about canteen and students. By thinking about those with people, we are trying to make our students be comfortable and better. Therefore, our idea can make better school and this relates to caring global citizen.
I think we can do the same thing as what we did this time, but we want it to be succeed it.Therefore, as we think, then we have to discuss about those ideas seriously and talk about it to either students councel or teachers, Mr.Mike and Ms.Sue.
Overall, I learned that we have many things that we can improve our school and students. Now, our school is getting better as we spend more year. Therefore, we can help each other and get money if they need or need to do more actions such as ask fathers and teachers about doing those kind of activity and so on.

Reflection about Fundrasing @ RIST

On October 28, 2009 our class, Gr.12-2, did the fundraising for Philippine because they got typhoon and flood, so they need donation to make their country better. Also we did this because we wanted to make our grade up, so this was our catch up project. It held at RIST break, lunch and after school and we got a lot of food such as cookies, buns, snacks, and cakes. Those are donated by our school’s students and parents. We really appreciate it. From the beginning, many people came and tried to buy the stuff. Especially, Ms. Teresa, the science teacher, brought two things and donated us 1,000 Baht!! We really surprised about it and really wanted to thank her to donate for the Philippines. Most of teachers brought something with no change and also, some RIS and RIST students bought many things so we got about 5,000 bath donations in total. We gave it to school already and everyone was appreciating that.
I believed in that I should do something on the time, if we decided so, but this time, we had October break and our classmates couldn't make any time to buy the cookies and other stuffs. Therefore, we had hard time to prepare everything on the time. Actually, we supposed to put the cookies in different package, but we didn't have enough time, so we just sold the cookies without packing. Even though I challenged with my belief, it was still succeeded, so I think it was okay. From next time, I want to do everything if we have time.
From the ESLR's I learned how to be a team player because if we didn't corporate each other then we couldn't make this community service. This community service was created by us. We divided the teams in some of groups then resolved who do what. Finally, as we can see from the money that many people donated for us, we succeed this self-community service, so I learned about team player.
If we are going to do the same thing again, I want to mention more about this to all students and parents before we do community services and prepare more things, so that we can sell different kinds of thing. Moreover, even though we sold those stuffs we didn’t decide the cost exactly before we sell and I think deciding the cost is the most important thing. Next time, we should guess the price of the merchandises first and sell it. But everyone said that this community service was fun, so I think it is good to do something like this kind of thing more.

Reflection about Culture Sharing Day

On Culture Week which held on October 12 to 15 and we shared our traditional culture and also different countries culture. On October 12th break and lunch time, my friends and I taught small kids (elementary students in RIST) how to play and fun with the Japanese traditional toys such as Origami, Kendama, Daruma Otoshi, and Otedama. We did so because we wanted to share what our culture is like and wanted them to know about Japanese more. This is the purpose of this sharing. Therefore, I did this as a community service. While we were teaching elementary students Origami, those kids really loved it and they finally made the crane and one of the kids asked us, “How do you guys can make a lot of animals and other stuff from this Origami?” and we answered, “We didn't know it when we were baby, but we know now because we played when we were kids like you guys.” The kid understood and went to somewhere else. My friends and I just laughed each other and were happy to response the kid’s question. This is what happened while we were teaching how to do Origami and how to make a thing. When I looked around, I saw one of my friends were doing Kendama which has red ball with string and we have to put red ball on the thing that we hold and many kids were excited of that.
I believed in that I should response perfectly if someone asked me a question, so I confirmed it in this community service. As I told you before, I taught the kids how to make a crane and answered the question that the kid asked, so it was really good me to complete my belief.
From ESLR’s I learned Caring Global Citizen because I learned how to teach and how to response to small kids if they ask me question, so I felt that I should teach them kindly and use easy words to the elementary students so that they can understand. Therefore, I learned that I should choose who am I talking and depends on that I should change the way I talk. I would do the same thing as what we did in the culture sharing because it was really nice to tell people that how to play the different cultural games or toys and also many children came and wanted to learn something from there. However, I expected more middle school students. I think they also don’t know much about Japanese culture or other countries’ culture, therefore it was good event to have it, but we have to mention to everyone before we’ll do that kind of sharing.

Reflection about Community Service

Last week, Sept. 26.09 , I went to community service at school and it starts from 9 to 12. But there were only six children came and we cancelled. However, I thought we can do something with those children such as cooking and dancing. This doesn’t affect my personal values because we did nothing. Actually, I did nothing this time, so next time, if there were many children, and then I will do something more interesting such as game, sports and dancing. What I learned in the community service is that the community service might be cancelled and we have to think about it. Also when I see the children, they seem to exciting about doing something, so if we do the community service next time, I want to do at least a thing with those kids even though a few people come. This is what I did and thought during the community service from last time.

What Does Community Need?

We asked to Ms. Sue about community service in last values class and I learned many things from her. She said that the Minburi kids really like to swim and last time, we didn’t have swimming, so if we will do community service we can teach them how to swim. To let them swim, we need swimming pool, so we can do it at school because we also have small classes to teach English, cooking and dancing or other things. Moreover, we have phoenix hall and we can play sports such as badminton, basketball, and soccer in there or outside of phoenix. Actually, school is good place to do the community service for them. We can help those Minburi kids by doing like this kind of community service because they don’t have parents while they are working and we can take care of them and also, the government doesn’t help those kind of children that much, so we should do something for them to make them happy and teach them some moral or give education to them. This also helps us to learn how to help poor kids, so it has advantages for both us and them. Therefore, I want to help those kids at school and bring some food to give to them. What kind of project we can make is just make several groups and separate it by the section and rotate it by the time, so that everyone can experience all activities and children also can have different kind of activities. So this is my advice how to make better community services.

Can One Person Make the Difference?

Last week, I read about an article about one man in values class and I think each of us can make the difference. That is because there are at least one person who has the same idea as that person. People can make difference depends on how they accept what they are different from the others. For Example, the Hong Suk Chun, a gay man, who spoke out the world that he is a gay. Actually, many people hesitate and insult him, but by going forward his own personality, many gay people start to go into the society. And now, there are organization for gays, gay bars, and books about gays. Therefore, as seeing this example, we know that one person can make the difference. Also, because of him, many people who are not gay can accept and get the knowledge about those gays, so it also gives advantage to normal people. From the ESRL's I learned that this relates to Caring Global Citizen, because if this person does not speak out about the gays, then maybe people still insult gays, but by knowing those people, we understand that there are people who have different personality and characteristics, so citizens will care about those people. Therefore, I think it this relates the Caring Global Citizen. Actually, this article does not affect my experience because I am a girl and I do not know how boys are feeling about being a gay. Some girls are lesbian, but we do not insult those people because it is depends on people. Different people have different opinion and personality. I do think this way maybe because he speak out about the gays and everyone accepts it. Then it became normal to everyone. It might affect me to know about the people who love the same gender as they have.If I were him, I will to the exactly the same thing as him because those are the only way I can tell about myself. I learned that there are many people who have really different personality or characteristics from the other people and we should understand those people, because the person is still a human being. As a result, I think one person can make the difference by having strong thoughts on their mind and trying to do something with it. The effort will be rewarded.

About Community Service

Before Discussion
How can we help chidren?
- I think we can help children by giving the thing that people don't use. To educate them, we can teach some languages such as how to write and speak English and their own language. We can also teach them how to be a good learner, so that they can learn something by themselves and share with other poor people.

Discussion
- Finding more about community
- What can we do for the children?
* Call them before we visit
* We can call them to get some information about the kids
* Visit them and talk face to face
* Prepare the thing such as food, money, and people (Prepare what the kids need)

After Discussion
I suggest that before we visit the kids to help, we can call the community center to get some information about children and after that we can prepare what they need. I think we can donate the things that we don't use at home anymore. Also, we can get some food such as snacks, breads, and drink to feed the kids. We also can get some Thais to translate what they kids want. So that we can communicate with them. This is what I think about the community service for kids.
